About Protesilaos Stavrou

Thank you for visiting my website and showing interest in it. The following is an introduction of myself. My name is Protesilaos, surname Stavrou. I am Cypriot in origin. I was born in Greece 23 years ago.

I lived in Greece for eighteen years, attending all levels of primary and secondary education, while I also had the chance to be educated in two foreign languages, English and French, both of which I use in oral and script language. The rich heritage of Greece, coupled with the respect for knowledge that permeates the modern Greek culture, was a catalytic factor in shaping my character, making me willful to follow a path that leads to the academia.

After graduating from the lyceum, I took the decision to abandon Greece in search for higher education in Cyprus, where I had the luck to receive a scholarship for a bachelor degree in European Politics, Law and Economics.

I now work at the European Parliament and am making plans to forward my studies with a masters degree in economics, which I intend to complement with a Phd on the same field.

I consider myself a libertarian and a cynic, both by force of temperament and by education.

For all the rest, you might track my views by reading my articles.

Finally some words about this website you might find useful. The articles included here are about the European Union, covering issues of politics and political economy. The purpose is to comprehend the way in which it functions and affects our lives, in every given area of life. My experiences so far have taught me that I may only speak for myself. As such I take full responsibility of what I write and say, without involving a third person in my musings.

Accademic and youthful explanation, I give it a “10+” Good job. There is courage in your pace, reflection, and momentum. I am in America. I am looking at the Euro similar. I spoke with my German business buddy the other day. What he says is this:
Germans by nature are not going to avail themselves to another countries debt-they will drop the ball in the end! However, he says :::LIBERAL; meaning lazy like, unproductive, less exuberant, etc..will eventually take hold in government, and the populas is already dealing with this pressure. In America, we are falling apart from this point of view. I am a licensed contractor; I previously taught school. During the past ten years, I have been living by a creed: TAKE IN MORE THAN YOU SPEND, ABOVE ALL SEEK OUT, AND BE PRODUCTIVE, and never, ever waste money! In the begining I had zero in 1997. By working and following this advice: I found it in the Bible; I give God credit and my dad too, and mom, both business people, and smart people I meet on the way too.
Anyway, NOW, I have a fixed income in municipal bonds that pays: $6000 a year tax free. I have cash in the bank, and paid home, paid car, AND NO DEBT!!! I believe I got that from the Bible, because after I read a part about being a slave to the lender, I was convinced. THERE IS NO SHORT CUTS TO RICHES…all the folks I know who had money in 1997 are very reduced now! It ended up in a settlement for divorce, lost buisness, but many times: OVERSPENDING. It is very sad here thinking about my friends…just not the same exuberance, the same happy to be alive feeling. It is pessimissium. I understand how you must feel about YOUR COUNTRY AND FAMILY.
IN AMERICA HAVING NO MONEY IS AN ISOLATED EXPERIENCE-there is no place for a moneyless man! How is this compared to Greece?
We are so different here, unsubstancial optomistic:::I see it like this; If you have a vaccant lot put up a Mc Donalds and you’ll make money. Yes, 15 yrs ago this was true, but not now in Los Angeles. Sincerely, Bruce Bacon

Good job on describing the situation in Greece and the Euro. All the you say a youthful accdemic word is exactly what many in America feel. I also understand your concern for freinds, family and country-it is ADMIRABLE–keep going….
    Sincerely,
    Bruce Bacon
